Heavy rain, high winds and even hail pounded the Chicago area as some intense storms send people running for cover.

The area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. Saturday.

ABC7's meteorologist Phil Schwarz said there were several reports of golf ball-sized hail in the northern suburbs, including northwest suburban Rosemont. People enjoying the weather earlier Saturday at Navy Pier got soaked as they tried to run for cover.

The severe weather only caused minor delays at Chicago's airports. At O'Hare Airport, some flights are delayed up to 60 minutes but there are no cancellations as of early Saturday evening. At Midway Airport, there are only minor delays.

Additionally, the weather knocked out power for more than 3,800 Chicago area customers, ComEd officials said Saturday.
