Cop acquitted in prisoner beating might lose job

August 15, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Rafael Munoz was cleared of assault charges earlier this month in a bench trial.

The sheriff's office says they were surprised by the ruling, because surveillance video from the July 2010 incident shows Munoz attacking the man.

Cook County prosecutors say the man suffered a fractured nose and broken teeth.

The sheriff's Office of Professional Review is now recommending Munoz be terminated.

Munoz has been suspended without pay since his arrest.
