Study: Little danger for pregnant night shift workers

August 19, 2011

Past studies suggested shift work increased the risk of preterm labor or having an underweight baby.

The debate is far from over, but a review of 23 studies finds , overall, shift work was not strongly related to these risks.

While there may be a slight risk increase, researchers reporting in the obstetrics journal BJOG say the evidence isn't there to make confident conclusions.

Still, experts suggest workers catch up on sleep when they can and pay extra attention to diet and exercise habits.
