Police charge 7 teens in attack on 18-year-old

August 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Authorities say the 18-year-old was walking west on Cermak Road near Clark Street shortly before 11 p.m. Friday when a group of teens approached him and demanded his cell phone. The teens then reportedly battered the victim, and took his cell phone and debit card before fleeing onto the platform of a nearby CTA Redline station.

Security personnel working at the CTA station immediately notified police, who then apprehended the suspects and located parts of the victim's phone along the platform. Police said the attack was also captured on the CTA's surveillance video.

The 18-year-old sustained facial injuries and was hospitalized.

Five of the attack suspects are 17 years old, and they were charged with robbery, mob action and aggravated battery with great bodily harm. The suspects are Fimi Adedokun of the 6100-block of North Damen Avenue; Stanton Demaret of the 8100-block of North Knox in Skokie; Devin Mossiah of the 6600-block of North Ashland Avenue; Denzel Olagbegi of the 1400-block of West Pratt Blvd.; and Duwon Polk, of the 1700-block of West Pratt Blvd.

Two additional 16-year-old male suspects were charged as juveniles with one felony count each of robbery and mob action.

The five adult offenders are expected to appear in felony bond court Sunday.
