Buddhist monk accused of raping teen

August 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, handed out flyers about the monk. He was a resident at the temple for a number of years.

He hasn't been charged with a crime but he has been sued for the sexual abuse of a then-13-year-old girl. She now has a child and DNA evidence reportedly determined that the monk was the father.

In an interview, he denied having sex with the girl but SNAP charges he admitted it to a temple official.

"The head of the temple was well aware of it and yet no one from the temple reported this incident to the police. We believe these officials of this Buddhist temple have been reckless at putting children at risk," Barbara Blaine, SNAP.

The monk is now at another temple in California where he allegedly has access to children. The temple says it has no control over the movement of priests.
