73-year-old Bloomingdale woman driving motorcycle dies

August 2011 (UNINCORPORATED VIRGIL TWP., Ill.)

The accident occurred Sunday around 2:20 p.m. at Beith and Freeland roads during a charity ride.

Kathleen Skimerhorn's 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling east on Beith and left the roadway near a curve. The motorcycle continued traveling on the grass shoulder on the east side of the road then fell to the ground.

The driver, who was the only person on the motorcycle, was transported to Delnor Hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Kane County sheriff's police say.

Skimerhorn was part of a group of approximately 100 motorcyclists participating in the Friends of Mike Thomas charity poker run.

Beith Rd. was closed for approximately an hour while the crash was being investigated.
