Park district vending machines about to get healthier

August 29, 2011 3:24:16 PM PDT
Starting Tuesday, the Chicago Park District will begin offering healthier snacks in its field house vending machines.

The first machines are being installed at Humboldt Park.

Ninety-six machines are expected to be installed at various field houses by the end of the year.

Nutritional standards for the vending machine snacks include limits on calories, sodium, fat, and sugar per serving.

There will also be at least one gluten-free item and one peanut-free item per machine as well.
