FBI: Glenwood bank manager stole $40K, fled country

August 30, 2011 (CHICAGO)

According to the FBI, Blazej Waselewski took the money from the Chase Bank branch in Glenwood after it closed for business Friday evening. He then left the country. He was arrested Saturday evening by police in the Dominican Republic after failing to claim nearly $40,000 in cash to customs officials.

"He used his keys and alarm code to enter the bank, deactivate the alarm and open the vault. When bank employees showed up on Saturday for work, they discovered one of the teller cash dispensers was missing, another one had been opened and the cash had been removed," said Sean McManus, FBI.

Waselewski remains in custody in the Dominican Republic awaiting extradition to Chicago.
