28 of 41 states had higher lottery sales in June

With the tough economy, more people are spending money on lottery tickets.

Twenty eight of the 41 states that end their fiscal year in June had higher sales compared to last year. Seventeen of those state lotteries set all-time sales records. Illinois was among them.

A 2004 study by Cornell University found that lottery sales do go up when the economy is bad.
