Conservation police say the boy, who is from Cary, was hiking with his parents Sunday in a restricted area. They say he fell 26 feet off a ledge into Basswood Canyon. The 8-year-old suffered head and neck injuries.
Illinois Conservation Police Sgt. Hank Frazier says Ottawa River Rescue took the boy across the Illinois River to Utica fire and ambulance workers. The boy was then airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was reportedly in stable condition Tuesday.
Starved Rock State Park is about 60 miles northeast of Peoria.
