A nationwide campaign called Muslims for Life held a blood drive Sunday with the goal of saving 30,000 lives.

The event was organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Locally, donors were able to give blood at the Baet-ul-Jaamay Mosque in suburban Glen Ellyn.

In addition to saving lives, organizers said the drive would be a good way to honor those who died on Sept. 11, and they say it's a way of upholding the message that Islam values the sanctity of life.
