Video shows woman wanted in mall shooting

September 12, 2011 (ORLAND PARK, Ill.)

Police say it was an attempted armed robbery.

The shooting happened in the parking lot right outside the JCPenney store. The victim did not know the suspect but was able to provide police with enough of a description that they found pictures of her on mall security camera video.

The female suspect can be seen walking into the mall shortly before closing time. Police say witnesses have identified this woman as the person who shot a 67-year-old victim in the Orland Park mall parking lot Friday night.

The victim was getting into her car when the suspect approached her, apparently in a robbery attempt. She told the victim, "Do as I tell you." Moments later her gun discharged, a bullet hitting the victim who collapsed into her car.

The suspect fled the parking lot but re-entered the mall. Investigators say they have video of the woman back inside the mall without the white jacket and hat she had been wearing earlier.

After the shooting security officers put the mall on lockdown. Sheriff's officers sent a helicopter to help Orland Park Police search for the suspect.

Despite the heavy police presence, the woman was somehow able to get outside the mall and escape the area. The wounded woman has been released from the hospital and police say she is doing OK.
