Berghoff's Oktoberfest; Bavarian recipes

Chicago's famous Berghoff Restaurant is bringing a taste of Bavaria to Federal Plaza for the 26th Annual Berghoff Oktoberfest from September 14-16 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The open-air celebration offers German food, Berghoff's private-label Oktoberfest beer, and Bavarian polka performances by the Johnny Wagner Band. Carlyn Berghoff shares the recipe for the Berghoff's all-time most popular dessert, Apple Strudel.

Admission to the festival is free.

  • Johnny Wagner Band: 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 14 through Friday, September 16
  • Maggie Speaks: 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14
  • Sixteen Candles: 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15
  • Sorry for Parting: 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16

The Berghoff will attempt to break the Midwest record for the longest brat and unveil a 45 foot brat on Thursday, September 15, between 3-4 pm. Bites of the brat will be sold as a fundraiser for Mercy Home for Boys & Girls.

Spot the Berghoff Brat! -- Herman der German the Berghoff's Mascot will hit the streets handing out mini-brats.
