Flight number 2050 landed at Nashville International Airport around 12:30 p.m. It was originally headed for Miami.
The Boeing 777 aircraft was stuck on the tarmac for over an hour. Airport officials say the American Airlines gates in Nashville aren't designed to accommodate a plane that size.
None of the passengers on board was injured. The flight should arrive in Miami later Friday.
