Streeterville man struck, killed by tree on Mich. golf course

September 30, 2011 (BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.)

Bruce Florine, 52, was walking between holes 1 and 2 on the course when a large tree blew down on top of him, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office. He was killed instantly.

Florine was a top consultant for the PGA of America and was helping to plan the 2012 Ryder Cup, which will be held in Chicago.

Florine was also a member of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents (SOAR), which released a statement that reads, in part, "A kind and caring man, Bruce was particularly excited about the philanthropic opportunities presented by the Ryder Cup. He was working closely with Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, and the PGA Foundation on a number of projects to benefit the two organizations and support them in charitable missions."
