Police: Drunk man stole, crashed ambulance

October 2, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Police spokeswoman Amina Greer says paramedics were loading an empty stretcher into the ambulance early Sunday morning when the man, identified by police as Juan Hernandez, took the vehicle. He then allegedly crashed the vehicle nearby, hitting several vehicles along the way.

Hernandez is charged with DUI, criminal damage to government property, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving and failure to carry a driver's license, according to Chicago police.

Greer says the 37-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was transported in good condition back to Norwegian-American Hospital.
