A Gary, Indiana, police officer was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop Monday afternoon.

Police say Corporal Richard Pratt stopped a vehicle for a violation. The driver, 28-year-old Jawan Winford, was told to take the vehicle out of gear but investigators say he put it in reverse, hitting Pratt and two police cars.

The car stopped after hitting another car while trying to get on Interstate 80/94.

Winford ran away but was found hiding in a wooded area nearby. He faces several charges.

Corporal Pratt was treated for minor injuries and released.
