Trapped workers rescued from Wis. cell tower

October 4, 2011 (BRISTOL, Wis.)

The men were working on a cell tower Monday in Bristol, Wis., just across the Illinois border, when the lift they were on shut down after the ground beneath it shifted slightly.

The men first called in help from the lift company, but when they couldn't get it fixed, the fire department was called. Crews brought in another lift to reach them and bring them to the ground.

"They were at about 110 foot, and all of our ladders for fire service, the tallest ones are around.. 104 foot. So, we were just a little shy. So, we had to bring in some specialized equipment," said Steven Krause of the Somers Fire Department.

Officials say the men may have been stuck up there for eight hours or more.
