Protesters rally over pending psychiatric hospital closings

October 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Mental health advocates argue that closing the hospitals without an alternative plan to treat patients will actually cost the state more money.

Gov. Pat Quinn wants to close three of the state's nine psychiatric facilities, including one in south suburban Tinley Park.

The protestors say they are not against the idea of closing hospitals since it's better to treat patients in the community.

However, they want a more comprehensive plan to serve patients.
