Physicians group warns of crib bumper dangers

October 18, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Aldermen recently passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale of crib bumpers because babies can suffocate against the bedding product.

For years, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has received reports about the dangers from bumpers. The Academy is now advising physicians to warn parents about the suffocation risks.

Manufacturers, however, are standing behind the bumper products. They argue that the crib bumpers are safe and help prevent head injuries.
