Events are planned for October 24th all across the Chicago area. A Food Day event can be as simple as organizing a cooking class in your child's elementary school or hosting a healthy pot-luck dinner with friends.
Locally, the group "Purple Asparagus" will be at Greeley Elementary School teaching their "Little Pea" curriculum to 3 first grade classes. It involves reading "Little Pea" a picture book written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and then a tasting of farmers' market sourced vegetables.
This is one of the schools that Purple Asparagus will be teaching its Delicious Nutritious Adventures program in during the 2011-12 school year. It is also one of the schools that Whole Foods is sponsoring and staffing—through a partnership with Purple Asparagus.
