Occupy Chicago to petition mayor to stop arrests

October 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The group held its latest protest Thursday night at Congress and Michigan. Before the protest, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Congressman Danny Davis, along with labor and community organizers, held a town hall meeting with Occupy Chicago.

The Democratic lawmakers criticized subsidies for corporations that ship jobs overseas, and called for an end to tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans at the expense of education and social programs.

Demonstrators plan to gather at Congress and Michigan again Friday after a march from Jackson and Lasalle and around the Loop.

The group also plans to deliver a petition to the mayor's office to allow the group to stay and stop the arrests of protesters.

Occupy Chicago plans more rallies for this weekend.
