Evergreen Park street honors fallen soldier

October 22, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Jared Stanker, 22, was one of seven soldiers killed when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in 2009. His family was on hand for the dedication ceremony

"Here today to honor the sacrifice of a very genuine and caring person, and that's for my brother, Specialist Jared Donald Stanker. So we thank you so much," said Stanker's sister Jordan Brandl.

It was an emotional moment for Stanker's family when the street sign marking Stanker Way was unveiled at 97th Street and Homan in Evergreen Park. Members of the Illinois Patriot Guard and Operation Welcome You Home were also on hand for the ceremony.

Stanker was a graduate of Brother Rice high school.
