Judge denies CTA killer's request

October 26, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Milton Wardlaw was convicted of the October 2008 shooting death of 17-year-old Kiyanna Salter. He was sentenced this September to 70 years in prison.

On Wednesday, a judge denied Wardlaw's request for a reduced sentence and ordered him to serve out the entire term.

Wardlaw was riding a CTA bus near 71st and Cottage Grove and as he got off the bus he fired shots at a man he had argued with earlier. One of the bullets killed Kiyanna Salter, who was not the intended target.

Wardlaw surrendered to police after his mother identified him on surveillance video.
