This year's Chicago Christmas tree comes from the Spangler family of Western Springs.

The Spanglers' 83-year-old, 55-foot Colorado spruce was selected from an online poll sponsored by the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Spangler family lost in the final round of voting last year but won this year by more than 700 votes. On ABC7 News this Morning, the family explained why they entered the contest.

"It's a little too close to the house, and we're having some foundation issues and we've been going back and forth for several years about whether to take it out, and when the tree contest came around we thought this would be a win-win, where we would feel good about getting rid of the tree," Don Spangler said.

The Spangler family will be on hand to flip the switch to light the tree in Daley Plaza which happens Thanksgiving week.
