Remembering Chicago's murdered children

October 29, 2011

Among them was Enrique Rodriguez, a Kennedy-King College student who died August 21, 2011. His parents and brother, Jose, Teresa and Alfredo Rodriguez, respectively, were in our ABC7 studio alongside Reverend Susan Johnson, to talk about the citywide "Urban Dolorosa" events.

They are a series of vigils the first week of November to remember the killed children and promote an end to violence. Families of the victims, activists and religious leaders are inviting the community to participate.

Rev. Johnson, Senior Minister of Hyde Park Union Church and Executive Director of "Urban Dolorosa", or "the Sorrowing City", conceptualized these concerts. The events will create a memorial in music, poetry, photography, youth performance and the reading of the names of children killed, concluding with a candle-light vigil in various neighborhoods.
