168 citations to kids under 12 for new Chicago curfew

November 4, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The curfew for children under 12 in Chicago is 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

More than 2,000 young people between 12 and 16 have also been cited for curfew violations in the past two months. That curfew is 10 p.m. during the week and 11 p.m. on weekends.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says enforcing the curfew ordinance reduces crime and violence and helps keep children safe.
