Mayor Rahm Emanuel helped open three new athletic fields in underserved areas Saturday.

He and Alderman Emma Mitts cut a ribbon to open the La Follette Park Field. The other fields that opened Saturday are at Garfield and Pasteur parks.

The fields are part of a public-private initiative called "Take the Field," which is building 10 artificial turf athletic fields throughout the city.

Emanuel thanked the city's Take the Field partners: The Chicago Bears, the Sacks family, and the McCormick, Parkways, and Pritzker Traubert Family foundations.
