Ex-Mayor Daley attends youngest daughter's wedding

November 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The wedding was moved up so Mrs. Daley, who has been battling cancer, can take part in the ceremony.

Elizabeth Daley, who is called "Lally," married Sam Hotchkiss at Spiaggia restaurant on the Magnificent Mile.

The wedding was scheduled to begin around 5 p.m. The entire Daley clan was on hand, including the mayor's brother and White House chief of staff Bill Daley. Current Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was also on the guest list.

"Lally is a tremendous young lady. She really works with autism kids, and she's a terrific person, and so is Sam. So we're real happy. It'll be a nice night," said Bill Daley.

Elizabeth Daley and Hotchkiss met in college. The two have been dating for several years. Daley works at a program for autistic children. Hotchkiss is in the insurance business.

While many are wishing the couple well, they are also expressing concern for the bride's mother, Chicago's former first lady Maggie Daley. She has surpassed doctor's expectations by beating back cancer for years. She has a rough few months, though, but her spirits remain high.

Still, the couple decided to move their wedding up about a month and a half so Mrs. Daley could fully enjoy the day.

The wedding and reception took place at Spiaggia, a favorite restaurant of President Obama's that overlooks Lake Michigan. Elizabeth Daley wore her mother's wedding gown.

Chicago noteables including Desiree Rodgers, and Elzie Higginbottom attended.

Father Jack Wall from Old's St. Pat's Church in Chicago, a long-time Daley friend, was expected to officiate.
