A South Side home partially collapsed after a possible gas explosion.

The explosion happened late Sunday afternoon in the 600-block of E. 87th Place.

A fire official at the scene tells us the house was vacant, but the owner may have been doing some remodeling.

"Just a big boom - big sonic boom, and then nothing," said Lourina Johnson, who lives nearby. "Saw the house leaning and the fire in the back."

Gas was shut off to the house, but others in the neighborhood were not affected.
