Felony charges were dismissed Wednesday afternoon against more than three dozen non-violent, first-time offenders in Cook County.

State's attorney Anita Alvarez and Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans announced the action Wednesday.

The offenders completed a unique alternative prosecution program offered by the state's attorney. Most of the people who go through the deferred prosecution program are in their late teens or early 20s.

Victims of their crimes have to agree to allow the first-time offenders to take part in the intensive program.
