Man fatally struck by car on Wheaton road

A man died Friday after he was struck by a vehicle at a dark intersection in Wheaton, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

A vehicle was traveling westbound on Geneva Road around 12:15 a.m. when it struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the roadway at Knollwood Drive.

According to the sheriff's office, the victim is 49-year-old Shawn D. Somerville of Wheaton. He was pronounced dead at the scene early Friday.

The sheriff's office is calling it an accident, saying the driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperative.

Investigators found the body of the man in the grass 10 feet from the road.

The victim may have been struck by a vehicle as he was walking on the roadway. His wife told detectives he was walking home from the train station.

The intersection is busy but very dark and there are several homes nearby.

Sheriff's detectives are continuing the investigating into this incident and updates will be made when information becomes available
