Northern Indiana dealing with whiteout conditions

January 2, 2012 (MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.)

Lake-effect snow is blanketing Michigan City, Indiana. Forecasters say the area could see as much as 10 inches of snow.

Although snow plows have been out all day, and the roadways have been salted, it's still dangerous for drivers. Several snow- related crashes have been reported, and the strong gusts of wind are creating whiteout conditions at times.

"The roadway looks deceiving," said Michigan City Police Traffic Commander Lieutenant Jeff Loniewski. "There's a lot of places that look clear, but it's actually glazed over."
