Brief break from booze won't improve liver health

January 3, 2012

According to experts, a short period of complete abstinence will not improve liver health.

The head of the British Liver Trust says too many people believe the hype about rejuvenating their liver by detoxing in January. They say drinkers should stay off alcohol a few days every week throughout the whole year.

Hepatologists add that a one-month detox can lead to false sense of security. They say it also feeds the idea that you can abuse your liver as much and repair the damage with a quick fix.
