The new store, located at State and Randolph, will occupy two floors where the drugstore chain will offer manicures, sushi and a barista preparing coffee drinks. It will also sell fine wines, fresh bakery goods and made-to-order smoothies.
Walgreens says it's trying to attract customers to increase sales beyond the pharmacy.
"This store really allows us to take all the innovation we have been working on throughout the country and apply it back into one store. We're pleased and excited about it. We were able to get 26,000 square feet and 22,000 of it is consumer retail space that they can shop," said a Walgreens spokesman.
The new Walgreens will officially be open for business starting Tuesday.
