Jesse Jackson Jr. visits food depository

January 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

He said the depository supports a number of organizations in his district, including seven daycare facilities, 70 food pantries and one senior program.

And, every day, there are more who need assistance.

"It's clear to me that in this economy, the need is growing," said Jackson. "More families need nutritional assistance. More food pantries are in demand of more food. All the support that the residents of the city of Chicago and the federal government can give to this program are particularly important."

Jackson said the depository distributed more than 11 million pounds of food during fiscal year 2011.
