Some research on red wine benefits discredited

January 12, 2012

The University of Connecticut says a researcher committed widespread fraud by publishing fake studies about the benefits of red wine in as many as 11 scientific journals.

A university statement says Dipak Das committed more than 100 acts of data fabrication and falsification. Dr. Dipak das did studies of resveratrol, which is found in red wine and has shown potential for promoting health.

Other scientists have said he is not a major researcher and that the scandal will have little effect on other studies into red wine's health benefits.
