Handcuffed man who took cruiser surrenders

The prisoner that is driving the police car is William Francis Blankenship III, 22 years old from Knox, Ind., according to authorities. Blankenship is 5'10,"175 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. He has a goatee with some other facial hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white/gray hoodie sweatshirt. Blankenship was handcuffed when he fled in the car, police say.

A 22-year-old Indiana man who police say stole a squad car containing weapons while handcuffed after a drug arrest has turned himself in to Indiana State Police in Starke County.

William Francis Blankenship III, 22, of Knox, Ind., surrendered at his family's home Thursday around 10 p.m.

Blankenship is now in the Porter County Jail.

Blankenship was wanted for stealing a Kouts, Ind., police car after being arrested Tuesday by one of their officers. The police car and its contents were recovered Wednesday in LaPorte County.
