Chicago police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are investigating the death of a 6-month-old South Side girl who was scalded in hot water.

Christina Thomas died Friday at Loyola Medical Center. Eleven days ago, she was burned over 30 percent of her body.

The girl lived in the 700-block of West 76th Street.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of abuse against her mother.

The girl reportedly was put into a bathtub filled with scalding water and suffered second-degree burns on the lower half of her body.
