Chicagoan's mom survives cruise ship sinking

January 16, 2012

Christian Arca's mom, Maria, lives in New York state.

A tweet sent in what appears to be his Twitter account says, "Got a text from my mother saying the cruise ship she was on was sinking. She's fine."

Italian rescue crews have found another body of a passenger from that shipwreck off the coast of Italy Monday, bringing the death toll to six.

The cruise ship company's CEO blames "human error" by the ship's commander for the accident.

Divers searching the partially submerged luxury liner Sunday found the bodies of two elderly men still in their life jackets. More than a dozen others are missing, including two Americans from Minnesota.

The ship's captain has been arrested and faces accusations from authorities and passengers that he abandoned ship before everyone was safely evacuated.
