Consumer group points to possible energy savings

January 16, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) says the mild start to winter, some of the lowest natural gas prices in years, and simple energy-saving tips could save consumers money.

Lowering the thermostat during the day and keeping blinds drawn at night are a few suggestions to help lower bills.

"Bottom line, Chicago area consumers have the potential so save up to $149 on their utility bills this winter," said CUB Communications Director Jim Chilsen.

The savings Chilsen mentioned is compared to last winter. The CUB offers hundreds of tips on how to save energy online.
