Bears hire Phil Emery as general manager

January 28, 2012 (LAKE FOREST, Ill.)

The Bears have filled their vacant general manager position with a man who got his start at Halas Hall.

Emery, who most recently was the Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting, was an area scout for the Bears from 1998 to 2004.

During that time, the team drafted Pro Bowlers Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman. But they also took Curtis Enis, Cade McNown and David Terrell.

From there, Emery went to Atlanta where the Falcons drafted quarterback Matt Ryan and Pro Bowl wide out Roddy White. He's had similar success at Kansas City and is a guy universally respected throughout the NFL, considered a tireless worker.

He will be formally introduced on Monday at Halas Hall.

Emery and his wife, Beth, have a daughter, April.
