Do you dread jean shopping? Most women do! Curvy, petite, pear shaped-- you name it! Women can spend days trying to find the right pair of jeans for their body types.
Erica Strama, the Senior Marketing Manager for the Shops at North Bridge, gave us a few tips to make your next trip to the store a little easier.
If you're a "pear" shape, you tend to carry your weight through the tush, hip and thigh area. It's important to look for a boot-cut or flare style that balances out your figure and keeps everything in proportion. We also styled her in a tunic to add focus to the upper-half of her body and the crochet scarf draws your eye upward. Lily is also tall ? at 5'11", it can be very difficult to find jeans that are long enough. Lucky Brand jeans come in lengths: short (30" inseam), regular (32" inseam) and long (34" inseam) to accommodate all heights .
"Sweet n' Low" boot-cut jean - $99
Cream tunic - $99
Cream camisole - $29.50
Cream crochet scarf - $69.50
Bangle bracelets - $24.99-$39.99
Gold earrings - $39
Our model, Aneta is an "hourglass" shape, meaning that her shoulders are in line with her hips and she has a defined waist. Anyone with this body type is familiar with the tell-tale "gap" that can happen in the back called the "booty gap." We chose the Modern Flare Jean from LOFT because it's designed specifically for this body type. A good rule of thumb to follow is: the bigger the tush, the bigger the pockets should be.
Modern flare jean - $69.50
Green and navy striped top - $49.50
Bangle bracelets - $19.50-$24.50 each
Navy suede peep-toe bootie - $99.50
If your weight is carried around the middle without a well-defined waist, you're an "apple" body shape. Women with this body type know it can be a challenge to find a perfectly-fitted jean, but we've found it! These "CJ" by Cookie Johnson boot-cut jeans are perfect for our model, Renee, because they're designed for real women with real curves. What's also nice about these jeans is that they have a huge size range - from a 0 to an 18 - so it really opens up the opportunity for women to get a designer-style jean. This also happen to be Oprah's favorite line of denim.
Cookie Johnson boot-cut jeans - $158
Vince Camuto burnt orange cardigan - $69.90
Pleione blue tank top - $48
Kendra Scott white and gold earring - $58
Michael Kors gold and crystal cocktail ring - $95
Trouve mushroom pump - $129
One of the biggest trends in denim right now is the colored jean. We've seen everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Fergie rocking this trend. This particular jean from White House I Black Market is perfect for petite ladies since it has a shorter rise to prevent any bunching in the front. If you're 5'3" or under, avoid the boyfriend jean and an exaggerated flare ? both styles will make your legs look shorter.
White House I Black Market

Black and white polka-dotted top - $78
Patent leather belt with bow detail - $38
Silver hoop earring - $28

It's important to note that you don't have to be super skinny or a size 0 to rock a skinny jean! Our model Sabella looks sleek and fabulous in this pair of dark-wash "skinnies" from Forever 21. Because there's no embellishments or whiskering, this jean works really well for a curvy figure. I love that Forever 21 has this new extended-size line of clothes which goes up to a 3X and the styles and trends are the same that you'll find in the rest of the store.
