McDonald's to stop using additive in hamburgers

The filler is made from beef trimmings that are treated with ammonium hydroxide to kill bacteria. The process is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

The additive has recently come under fire.

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver campaigned against the use of the filler, which some food experts call pink slime.

McDonald's says the decision to stop using the additive due to a focus on food safety.
