Chicago cab drivers will get fare-hike hearing

February 2, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Chicago cab drivers will get a city hearing on a proposal to raise fares.

Chicago cab drivers filed a petition to ask for a hearing on their proposed 22-percent fare increase... but they did not have the required number of signatures. However, the city's Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection and Alderman Anthony Beale have granted the hearing.

It is expected to be held after a new city ordinance goes into effect in July. It requires cabs more fuel efficient and adds a permanent $1 fuel surcharges to fares.
