Hundreds on cruises hit with stomach viruses

February 5, 2012

Ninety-two passengers and 13 crew members on board the Ruby Princess were affected by norovirus.

The ship returned to Ft. Lauderdale today.

Norovirus causes vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain.

The Crown Princess returned to port Saturday after 150 people became ill.

A spokesperson for the Princess Line says the outbreaks do not appear to be related.

The cause of the illnesses has not been determined.

And in New Orleans the sailing of the Voyager of the Seas was delayed for a couple of hours after a stomach virus outbreak there.
