US docs call for campaign against child abuse

February 6, 2012

Nearly 4,600 US children were hospitalized with broken bones, traumatic brain injury and other serious damage caused by physical abuse in 2006, according to a new study in the journal Pediatrics.

The study also found babies younger than 1 were the most common victims. That makes serious abuse a bigger threat to infant safety than sudden infant death syndrome.

Experts say there is a national campaign to prevent SIDS, so why not a campaign related to child abuse, where every parent is reminded that kids can get injured?
