Too many soft drinks could raise respiratory risk

Too many soft drinks may raise the odds for respiratory problems, according to a new study in the journal Respirology.

They include asthma and or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Scientists followed people who drank more than half a liter of soft drinks a day, a little more than two 8-ounce glasses. Researchers found that people who consumed that amount were 1.2 times more likely to have asthma and 1.7 times more likely to have COPD.

The more soft drinks consumed the greater the risk. Smoking increased that risk even further.
