The woman claims she was 11-years old when she was attacked by a man living with her mother in Harvey. Cook County Corrections Officer Robert Buchanan, 45, is charged in the case.
The girl reported the assault at the time, but Harvey police never submitted a rape kit for testing. This came to light in 2007 when authorities raided the Harvey Police Department and discovered about 200 untested rape kits.
The woman did not find out until last spring that the rape kit had never been tested.
