The lawsuit argues that the method for selecting the schools is discriminatory. And the plaintiffs' claim it has affected a disproportionate number of African-American students.
Local school council member Jitu Brown said they don't pay taxes to be disenfranchised.
"It's immoral, it's wrong and it could be even called evil at the end of the day," said Brown. "Because what happens to those children when they're shifted around from school to school. What happens to them?
Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard said in a statement "students in our lowest performing schools deserve better. That's what we intend to give them."
